First thing is find a photographer you know you can trust or whos comes recommended by another model or a friend.Find a studio that is well known and has a good reputation.Take a chaperone with you but don't let them interfere with the shoot,ie suggest they stay in another room while the shoot takes place, they can make the coffee.
Not 100% with the law but the safe bet is no topless until 18 years old, protects the model, the photographer and the studio. |

As Andy says check people/places out before going.
Regarding the law,you have to be 18+ to do topless and any photos deemed to be "sexual".The law regarding what is "sexual pose" is not quite clear. _________________ UK SHOW MODELS

From recollection the word used in the Act of Parliament was 'provocative' so there are plenty of images still being shot which would be illegal on the basis that this is a very subjective viewpoint. As has been mentioned there are no strict rules on what is legal.
There is also a difference in the law in Scotland. I seem to recall that a Scottish photographer and Scottish model can shoot topless stuff in Scotland at 17 provided it is only for publication in Scotland, which makes it a bit useless methinks.
I believe it was an amendment to the Sexual Offences Act 2003 if anyone wants to dig around.

The law changed (around April 2006 from memory). In theory, all images caught retrospectively by the change in the law were supposed to be destroyed but there were certain exemptions which is why there are still old topless photos around of people like Sam Fox when they were only 16. |

| There is another exemption. If you are in a long-term relationship with someone you can shoot what you like as long as they are over 16, but of course they are only for private use. |
