You can get cracking results with point and shoot cameras these days, and they have all sorts of features to help you out like face detection etc.
If you want something you can get more creative with though, you'll want to go down the DSLR route. You have full manual controls (as well as some auto modes to help you in the beginning) and you'll find everything happens faster. Auto focus is lightning quick and you wont duffer from shutter lag.
Really it comes down to how far you want to go and how much you want to spend. Once you answer that we can all wade in with our personal recommendations and complete baffle you with acronymns

Personally I would say that if you want to go further than simple point-and-shoot but not up to full DSLR then a hybrid would be a great option. It really does depend on your budget. They can come with very good optical zooms but without the lens being interchangeable (alhough that gives it the advantage of not suffering from dust on the sensor).
First you need to decide a rough budget before looking serious at options. |

Fuji S5600 is a good starter camera, thats what I am using and can make some basic adjustments etc, and they are cheap now |

Well Dave, if you can go to £70, you can get yourself a Canon 350D DSLR with a kit lens.
A great little camera that you can grow into. And if you invest carefully in lenses, you can take them with you to your next camera when you upgrade.

One tip - get the best camera you can afford.Do not just go for one because of the price (sales/price reductions excluded).
For example do not get the 350D AT £379,if you can afford the 400D at £448.
If £300 is your budget, and you can not afford to increase it, then look at something like the Nikon D40 _________________ UK SHOW MODELS

spend most of your budget on optics, thats where quality comes from.if you are concentrating on girls, landscapes etc you don't need a body thats going to give you 8fps.6 meg is plenty big enough if you aint going to print anything bigger than a3 or only show your stuff on websites, the bigger the files the longer it takes to download and the more space it takes up etc.
shall we start a debate on Nikon/Canon |
